Before I jump into all of the big news, as a public service announcement I would like to remind everyone that the Nocatee Trail Project is this Saturday, May 5. Please see our web site home page for all of the details: www.sorbajax.org
We will be blazing new trails out there and will ride the trail when we are done with the work.
We had a meeting with COJ this week and were able to walk away with a ton of AWESOME news!
We were given permission to go ahead with the first two phases of the Tillie Fowler trail blazing project. That work date will likely be in May. Stay tuned for more info. We will have the TF master plan posted on our website very shortly. Check it out to see what the TF crew has planned for some sweat riding on the west side.
The South Side Loop is going to be multi directional in the very near future! It will rotate on a M/W/F/Sun and T/Th/Sat schedule. The signs will be ordered next week. Once they come in and are installed we will switch to multi direction!
We were granted permission to start the trail erosion project at Hanna. We will be doing permanent repairs to ALL of the trouble spots. We will utilize "57rock" (like the stuff they use up at Fort Clinch), mulch, and wooden structures to make the repairs. This project will start in the very near future, after Nocatee and TF. If you would like to see all of the spots that we will be repairing as well as where additional signs will be added go to our website: www.sorbajax.org
and look under the "Hanna Trail" section for all of the details.
The city is checking for us to see if we can use trucks to haul clay for Beach and Peach
The city is looking into helping us with a permit to run a water line to the jumps at Beach and Peach
Tuesday Night Bike Night is coming to Hanna this summer!!! Every Tuesday from 6-8, in June, July, and August SORBA Jax will host time trials on the E-Line trail. Get ready to put yourself against the clock! Stay tuned for more info.
Midnight Riders is coming to Hanna this summer. Once a month in June , July, and August, SORBA Jax will host a night ride at Hanna Park. Get your lights charge up and ready to go for some night time trail riding!!!
The city has asked us to go ahead and start mapping and working on trail proposals for Losco Road Park and Thomas Creek Park. We need people to step up and head these projects. The project leaders should NOT be the same people who are leading the other projects that we have going on. If you live on either the south side or the north side and would like to bring trail riding closer to you, please shoot me an email expressing interest in helping with these two projects.
We are working on another meeting with the city based specifically on the Jax 60 Project. We will have representatives from IMBA attend the meeting with us.
SORBA Jax is really hitting its' stride and the COJ is really excited about SORBA Jax and our vision for improving the mountain bike scene in Jacksonville!
Hope to see everyone at Nocatee on Saturday morning.
